Otero County Fire Fighters Associaton (OCFFA) is a working partnership of the fire and emergency medical services (EMS) entities that operate within Otero County, New Mexico.
A Tradition of Cooperation
OCFFA was formed in 1980 to foster communications among the fire and EMS departments in Otero County, as well as between these departments and other emergency and statutory organizations that operate in and around Otero County including U.S. Forest Service, New Mexico State Forestry, Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, Mescalero Apache Reservation, Holloman Air Force Base, and local government officials at the municipal, county, state and federal levels.
Fire & EMS
OCFFA has in the past been responsible for working on obtaining voter approval of a .25% Gross Receipts Tax to fund county fire and EMS operations including the creation, operation and maintenance of the fire repeater network, emergency funds for fire and EMS departments.
Built by Volunteers
In the past, OCFFA has served to assist new department chiefs in all ways to fortify their department with necessary volunteers and equipment, and has been the primary interface with outside agencies. In 2005, the Otero County Office of Emergency Services was formed, and OCFFA is now jointly overseen by its President and the Otero County Emergency Services Director.
